Wood
W O O D is my first love.
I feel like I wasn’t much of a creator until I discovered my love for woodworking, for carving, turning, meticulous joinery, and every step of the process.
I heard a quote floating around the internet that goes something like, “in the scope of the universe, wood is more rare, perhaps more valuable, than diamonds”.
It makes sense. We don’t yet know if wood, being organic material, exists anywhere else in the universe, and diamonds aren’t especially rare on a cosmic scale. I think the organic life, the history that goes into wood makes it beautiful, and incredibly rare.

it’s just so
Relaxing.
Working wood, especially carving and turning on a lathe, is one of the most relaxing and hypnotic ways to pass an afternoon. I’m a pretty lucky person, but I do suffer intense anxiety when I leave myself unbusy. While I’m carving, that feeling doesn’t exist. My mind is free, my hands are busy, and that makes me feel at peace.

Wood feels timeless, and organic, and has a special connection to people. Each carving and each piece of furniture requires the life of a tree, the time and effort of a crafter, and the appreciation of the owner.
I choose not to use programmable tools (CNC routing, etc.) because my goal is not efficiency or robotic perfection. My goal is thoughtfulness, and connection, and time spent. When you buy something from me or commission a piece, you know with absolute certainty that it was made by my hands, with slow care and consideration.
