Patience

I got a project from a friend who wanted to support local crafstpeople

which by itself is an honor.

They wanted a dining table, and I wanted to do right by them.

The design I came up with for the table required crucially precise angled cuts

which had to be done freehand on the band saw.

I created a 3d model to help my confidence with the math and measurements

But I still managed to make plenty of mistakes.

This table is the proudest work I’ve done so far.

The leg assembly used fitted joinery and glue instead of screws,

The tabletop was soaked with hot water to pop the grain,

then hand-planed to level out the subtle differences in the component boards.

Freezing temperatures made things in the workshop difficult some days.

That was an exercise in patience for me and ultimately for the client.

But my friend, the client, is a very kind and patient person.

They even helped install the table.

The outcome was beautiful, and I hope it stays with them.
